“In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul” (Ps 94:19).
From behind the towering black clouds of world distress and personal difficulties, a solitary ray of light breaks through. Comfort comes directly from God’s heart to ours. What joy sweeps away the sadness when I realize that Jesus is my traveling companion!
Many times when we lived in Michigan, I took the precipitous journey across the five-mile-long Mackinac Bridge. Traveling in high winds, with snowdrifts swirling, in convoys beside tractor-trailers to break the wind, is not for the faint-hearted, as the span lifts you 200 feet above the water. Some poor souls have had their cars picked up by the wind and tossed right off the bridge! That’s why in 1991 the “Michigan Timid Motorist Program” was initiated to drive the sensibly concerned across to the other side.
But what a great thing to have our Savior’s promise never to abandon us in our anxieties. Lord, help us delight in this today.
