CHRIST OUR BENEFACTOR: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you” (1 Pet 1:3-4). An inheritance is being prepared for us, and we are being prepared for the enjoyment of it, so that when we enter upon it we shall not feel ill at ease, but, on the contrary, shall feel perfectly at home in our new surroundings, and enjoy it to the full because the Father “has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light” (Col 1:12) (J.A.W.). The saints in light? Yes, as with the children of Israel in Egypt, when all else was dark, they had light in their dwellings. “But you, brethren, are not in darkness” (1 Thess 5:4). We know how the story concludes: we know the wealthy Prince will share all that He has with His unlikely but grateful Bride.
