CHRIST, REVEALER of the FATHER: “I have glorified You on the earth” (Jn 17:4). How the Lord Jesus wanted His followers to know and love His Father! He explained that believers’ prayers are not—as many pagan religions teach—an attempt to bend natural law by influencing the Creator. “When you pray,” instructed the Lord Jesus, “say, ‘Our Father…’” Our prayer life is now based on a personal relationship. We are not beggars coming to a King; we are children coming to a Father. This is a family matter, this life of prayer, and, said Jesus, “the Father Himself loves you” (Jn 16:27). In fact, lest we are anxious about His desire to answer us and meet our needs, the Lord also said, “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Lk 12:32). Not, as earthly rulers expressed in their most generous moments, “up to half of my kingdom” (Mk 6:23; Est 5:3)—but the whole thing! In resurrection, He said, “I ascend to My Father and your Father.”
