CHRIST the FINISHER:Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith” (Heb 12:2). The Lord Jesus will finish in us what He began (Php 1:6). On September 4, 1869, at age 37, Hudson Taylor found a letter waiting for him from John McCarthy, a fellow missionary. His life was transformed by the truth contained in it. “To let my loving Savior work in me His will, my sanctification is what I would live for by His grace. Abiding, not striving or struggling; looking off to Him; trusting Him for present power; trusting Him to subdue all inward corruption; resting in the love of an almighty Savior, in the conscious joy of a complete salvation, a salvation ‘from all sin’ (this is His Word); willing that His will should truly be supreme—this is not new, and yet ’tis new to me. I feel as though the first dawning of a glorious day has risen upon me. I hail it with trembling, yet trust.…” The letter ended: “May He lead us into the realization of His unfathomable fullness.”
