“The Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You!” (Ps 84:11-12).
Is it not a strange thing that we trust God for our eternal salvation but that our faith sometimes wavers when it comes to our wardrobe and groceries? One day Billy Bray, the unconventional Cornish preacher, met a Quaker on the street. “Good morning, brother Bray. I have wished to see thee for some time. I have heard about thee and all the good things thou hast done for my Master. I asked the Lord whether there was something I could do for thee, and the Spirit told me that a very fine suit of clothes which I have in my home must be given thee. So I want thee to come and get the clothes—provided they fit thee.” Bray replied, “I thank you so much. I will be after the clothes, and as far as the fit is concerned, don’t let that worry you. If the Spirit told you to give them to me, He will see to it that they fit.”
