“Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1 Pet 1:13).
In my youth, the Lord’s return was on every believer’s mind. Perhaps today “heaven can wait” because we have it too good. Here’s the testimony of one railroad engineer: “Every night as I neared the end of my run, I would open the whistle and let out a blast just as we came ’round the curve. I’d look up at the top of the hill where a little cottage stood. There my old mother would come to the door and wave to me. Then she’d say to my father, ‘Thank God, Benny is safe home tonight.’ Now Mother and Dad are gone. Some day, when I’ve finished my run, I’ll draw near heaven’s gates, and shall see the same old couple waiting for me. And as I go sweeping through the gate, I imagine my dear old mother turning to Father and saying, ‘Thank God, Benny is safe home at last.’” Lord, make me homesick for heaven today!
