JESUS the SUPREME COMMUNICATOR: “No man ever spoke like this Man!” (Jn 7:46). So said the mesmerized officers who had been sent to arrest Him. “So all bore witness to Him, and marveled at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth” (Lk 4:22). This the testimony of Christ’s fellow townsmen. What of the crowds? “They were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with authority” (v 32). As well as the 60 parables, for which He is best known, the New Testament records: 16 sermons (detailed explanations of the big ideas of God: the kingdom, the future, the True Vine, etc.); 36 dialogs or private conversations with others—Nicodemus, the woman at the well, Zacchaeus, etc. We have a few of His prayers recorded (Lk 10:21; Jn 17). Also, post-resurrection, He left for us His open letters to the churches of Asia Minor (Rev 2–3). So while it is said that He never wrote a book, our Lord has left us much to fill our hearts and minds with both His grace and truth.
