“Praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word” (Col 4:3).
Ever feel like your attempts at speaking to others about the Lord are like banging your head against the wall? I think I can almost hear the Master saying, “Would you be interested in knowing where the door is?”
This idea of an open door for the word proves three things. First, we are not working alone when we seek to communicate God’s truth. The Lord has sent His Spirit into the world to convict and convince; He has simply invited us to join the team. Second, God’s access to every last person is a tremendous asset for us. He can speak to someone in a coma. He can reach behind prison bars or into operating theaters. He can speak in bars and brothels, and can gain access to the rich and famous. He can open doors that seem impossible. Third, these open doors are not automatically opened to us: we need to show our seriousness about the gospel project, and prayer is a key by which doors open.
