CHRIST the MESSIANIC HOPE: “We have found the Messiah” (Jn 1:41). How did Andrew know? The portrait of the Christ was so detailed and the Lord Jesus would match it at every point. He was the “seed” of the woman (Gen 3:15; Isa 7:14), born of the virgin Mary; from the tribe of Judah and line of David (Gen 49:10; Isa 9:7; Lk 3:23-33; Mt 1:1). The prophecies concerning His birthplace gave four geographic details (Mt 2), all fulfilled; and the time of His birth could actually be calculated (Gen 49:10; Dan 9:25). A forerunner would precede and identify Him (Isa 40:3; Mal 3:1), obviously John the Baptizer. His humanity, humility and abuse were predicted (e.g., the Servant Songs in Isa 42, 49, 50, 53; Ps 22) and the character of His ministry described (Isa 61). His passion, betrayal, triumphal entry to Jerusalem, death, burial, and resurrection were given in detail hundreds of years before (Ps 16:10; 22; 41:9; Isa 53). And these were mostly fulfilled by His enemies!
