CHRIST the INTERVENTIONIST: “all forsook me…But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me” (2 Tim 4:16-17). Caroline Talbott in the middle of the night was deeply impressed with the message, “Go to the Devil’s Pit tomorrow night at 11 to rescue a soul.” This outpost of hell in the worst part of New York City was so dangerous the police had to be shamed by this fearless woman to venture there. When sister Talbott entered the room filled with the grossest of sins, she dropped to her knees and began to pray. Slowly the room quieted. When she stood, scanning the room, she saw a young woman cowering in the corner. Enveloping her in her arms, she asked her what she was doing there. The young lady, daughter of Dr. Wenthorn, a prominent Christian, had been fooled into a trap by people she had trusted. Her virtue, perhaps her life, hung in the balance. But the Lord Jesus continues to effect last-minute rescue operations. Not one of His own is ever alone.
