May 25 Petition Mission

“Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope. This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life” (Ps 119:49-50).

Does God remember? He is omniscient, of course, and never has memory lapses, as we often do. But as we noticed in comments on verses 42 and 43, God has chosen to remove the saint’s failures from all records, including from His mind!

But although, on the basis of the finished work of His Son at Calvary, He can declare, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more” (Heb 10:17), here is something He will never forget. Every conversation He has ever had with you, dear believer, is an indelible record. Every promise made, every comfort given, every guidance offered, every truth revealed, every gracious word, every timely encouragement—THESE He will always remember! Like the notes in early love, or the special letters carefully penned, His word “has given us life” when we needed it most.
