CHRIST our EXAMPLE: “He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked” (1 Jn 2:6). The Lord Jesus was the only person wise enough to make up His own mind about everything. But He never did. He only did what the Father gave Him to do. How can we follow His wise example? Here are some helpful questions if asked in advance. 1. What does the Word say about this—by precept, picture or principle? (Ps 119:104). 2. Is it physically, spiritually, or mentally helpful or harmful? (1 Cor 6:12). 3. Am I in danger of becoming enslaved to this? (1 Cor 6:12). 4. Could it hurt or stumble others? (1 Cor 8:13). 5. Does it glorify God? In other words, does it reveal His character? (1 Cor 10:31). 6. Can I do it in the name of Christ and thank God for it? (Col 3:17) 7. Do I want to conceal my actions from other people? Or can this thing be done happily in the light? (Jn 3:21). It’s far better for the Lord to direct our steps than correct our missteps!
