“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear…. We love Him because He first loved us” (1 Jn 4:18-19).
A Christian, having become seriously ill, was attacked by “the accuser of our brethren” and began to doubt, because of the little love in his heart for the Lord. A friend responded, “When I get home from here, I expect to take my baby on my knee, look into her sweet eyes, listen to her charming prattle, and, tired as I am, her presence will rest me, for I love that child! She, however, loves me little. If my heart were breaking, it would not disturb her sleep. If my body was racked with pain, it would not interrupt her play. She has never brought me a penny; she’s a constant expense, but there isn’t enough money in the world to buy her. How is it? Do I withhold my love until I know she loves me? Am I waiting for her to do something worthy of my love before extending it?”
So it is that your responsibility today is to simply “keep yourselves in the love of God” (Jude v. 21).
