“Men always ought to pray and not lose heart” (or “faint,” KJV) (Lk 18:1).

H.G. Bosch quotes a missionary commenting on this verse: “My concordance shows the root meaning of the word ‘faint’ is ‘to cave in.’ What causes a ‘cave-in’? It is weakness on one hand and pressure on the other. What causes a cave-in in our prayer life? Is it not often pressure either from things of secondary importance, or else from the powers of darkness?” Bosch then adds, “Are we…persisting in prayer, at all seasons…? Let us all be reminded that Scripture exhorts us to pray: 1. ‘Always’ (Lk 18:1; Eph 6:18); 2. ‘Everywhere’ (1 Tim 2:8); 3. ‘For all’ (1 Tim 2:1); and 4. For ‘everything’ (Php 4:6).”

I have our lead verse in beautiful calligraphy by a dear Muslim lady who was selling her art at a local craft show. She gave it to me when I told her of R.C. Chapman, known as “the apostle of love,” who explained this verse as “Turn everything in life into something to talk to God about.”
