CHRIST the CURSED ONE: “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, ‘Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree’” (Gal 3:13). We were sitting in a restaurant in Jerusalem when approached by a Jewish physician. “May I sit with you,” she asked. “And may I tell you why?” She said she had been watching our group and we all seem so contented. She wanted to know the reason. We told her it was her Messiah, Yeshua, who gave us such peace. She explained, “We call him ‘Yeshu, the Crucified’.” “I know, although His real name—formulated by Moses—is Yeshua. Yeshu is an old curse where the three consonants form the acrostic: Yimmach Shemo Wezikro, i.e., ‘May his name and memory be blotted out.’ Your leaders wanted Jesus under the curse of God so had the Romans kill Him by putting Him on a tree. But, Doctor, by a happy circumstance, God also wanted Him there so He could bear the curse of a broken law for us!”
