CHRIST the HEIR: “His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things” (Heb 1:2). This passage in Hebrews includes the fulfilled prophecy from Psalm 2, “The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You.” But the psalm continues: “Ask of Me, and I will give You the nations for Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession” (Ps 2:7-8). This is the One whom Abraham met after his introduction by Melchizedek, “the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth” (Gen 14:22). Yet we read of this One, that when men saw Him, they said, “This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance” (Mt 21:38). Yes, for our sakes, the Universe’s richest Man became poor. But by the most extreme irony, the attempt to steal the Heir’s inheritance proved to be both useless and very successful. They could not take His wealth, but He willingly shares it with all who receive Him by faith. We become “heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ” (Rom 8:17).
