“To Him who made great lights, for His mercy endures forever—the sun to rule by day, for His mercy endures forever; the moon and stars to rule by night, for His mercy endures forever” (Ps 136:7-9).
Do you regularly express thanks to the Lord for His specific acts of creation? The psalmist did. Explaining the gospel’s spread, Paul writes in Romans 10:18 (quoting Ps 19:4), “Have they not heard? Yes indeed: ‘Their sound has gone out to all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.’” God has proclaimed His truth to all through the stars.
During the French Revolution, attempts were made to rid France of anything linked with God. They even tried to change the God-ordained seven-day week to ten days, until draft animals started falling in exhaustion! When an atheist boasted one evening to a farmer, “We will abolish everything that speaks of God,” the old fellow chuckled. “Why do you laugh?” Pointing to the stars, he replied, “I was just wondering how you will get those down.”
