CHRIST the SON of GOD: “And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God” (Jn 1:34). While the title “Son of God” is the official way in which the Lord Jesus is designated as the true expression of God in the flesh, there are many variants of this that show the intimate relationship between Father and Son. He is referred to as “the Son of the Blessed” (Mk 14:61), “Son of the Most High” (Mk 5:7), and “the Son of the Father” (2 Jn 3). He is called “His only begotten Son” (Jn 3:16), “His own Son” (Rom 8:32), and “My beloved Son” (Mt 17:5). The term “His dear Son” is also translated “the Son of His love” (Col 1:13). But perhaps one of the most tender passages is found in Hebrews 1:5, where the contrast is drawn with the mighty angelic beings that serve and glorify God night and day. Yet to none of them did God say what He says to the Lord Jesus: “I will be to Him a Father, and He shall be to Me a Son.” Or perhaps, “I will be to Him, ‘Father’ and He shall be to Me, ‘Son.’”
