“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!” (Lk 11:13).
Is this prayer for today? Certainly every believer has been given the presence of the Spirit: “If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His” (Rom 8:9). But are we enjoying the power of the Spirit?
George Goodman explains that the Spirit equips us for living in at least four ways. 1. Wisdom from above: “You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things” (1 Jn 2:20). 2. Power from on high: “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you” (Acts 1:8). 3. Love: “The love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us” (Rom 5:5). And 4. Liberty: “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty” (2 Cor 3:17). To that we may add the unity of the Spirit (Eph 4:3). What an array of blessings; what resources for victorious living! Surely we can pray for these!
