CHRIST the VISITOR: “The Dayspring from on high has visited us” (Lk 1:78). More often than not, we find the Lord Jesus sitting by the seaside or visiting in the homes of the needy. Zachaeus, Simon, Matthew, the synagogue ruler, Mary and Martha—all had the honor of having the Lord in their house. He came to bless, and we are advised to do the same (Jas 1:27). Henry Durbanville tells of the man who met the preacher on a Monday morning. “A fine sermon you preached on Heaven last night, but you didn’t tell us where Heaven is.” “Well, I’m glad to do so now. Do you see that little cottage on the hillside? In that cottage is a poor widow with young children, and they are in need of food and fuel. I would like you to take some to her, read a psalm and pray with them. If you don’t find out where Heaven is by the end of your visit, I will gladly pay for the groceries.” The man’s testimony the next day: “I was in Heaven yesterday, and spent a lovely time there.”
