CHRIST the FACE of GOD: “It is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Cor 4:6). Whose face was it that Jacob saw when he declared, “I have seen God face to face” (Gen 32:30)? The same One of whom it is said, “He is the image of the invisible God” (Col 1:15). When people looked into the Savior’s face, they were looking right into the heart of God. The tears of Jesus were the tears of Jehovah. The disciples could see in His face, as Christ looked at the rich young ruler, that “Jesus, beholding him, loved him” (Mk 10:21). And at that moment they saw the love of God even for those who would reject Him. We are those of whom it is written, “Though now you do not see Him” (1 Pet 1:8), but by faith we behold the glory of the Lord, and are being transformed into the same image. Soon we WILL see Him and be like Him when we “see Him as He is” (1 Jn 3:2). —J.B.N.
