CHRIST our COMPANION: “He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’” (Heb 13:5). Harner Middleswarth writes: My eight-year-old daughter and I were driving through the unfamiliar streets of the city to which we had recently moved. I was turning here and there without any explanation to my child. Finally, she looked up at me and said, “Daddy, are you lost?” I saw the anxious look on her face. Instead of answering her, I asked, “Are you lost?” A smile brightened her face. “Oh, no,” she said quickly, “I’m with you!” And with that her apprehension was gone. Silently we drove on. Silently—except I was saying to the Lord, “Sometimes I’ve been afraid I had lost my way in this world with all life’s twists and turns. Help me to have the faith of my little child, to look up into Your face, and to always remember to say, “I’m not afraid, Lord, because I’m with You!” After all, He has promised: “I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Mt 28:20).
