March 15 Petition Mission

“Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!” (Mk 9:24).

Who of us doesn’t need to pray this prayer? You may have heard of the great gospel pioneer, John G. Paton, who labored in the New Hebrides islands (now Vanuatu), east of New Guinea. As he sought to translate the Gospel of John, he struggled to find a word for “believe,” which occurs more than 90 times in the book. But one day a native worker entered his office and plunked himself down in a chair across from the missionary. This man then used a word meaning, “I’m resting my whole weight on” this chair. “I have my word!” exclaimed Paton.

Now let’s insert this in some well-known verses: “Repent, and rest your whole weight on the gospel” (Mk 1:15). “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in resting your whole weight on Him, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” (Rom 15:13). No need to be cautious with Him! Today, ask the Lord to help you to cast all your care, to throw all your weight, on Him.
