CHRIST our KEEPER: “Now to Him who is able to keep you…” (Jude 24). “The Lord is your keeper” (Ps 121:5). The word “keeper” means “guard,” “watchman,” “protector,” and “preserver.” How will He keep you? He can keep you from stumbling (Jude 24), keeping you as the apple of His eye (Ps 17:8). He will keep you in all your ways (Ps 91:11), wherever you go and when you sleep (Prov 6:22). He can keep you from the strife of tongues (Ps 31:20), and, if we ask, keep watch at the door of our lips (Ps 141:3). He will keep our souls and deliver them (Ps 25:20). In short, He will keep His sheep “as a shepherd does his flock” (Jer 31:10). In the beautiful and vital words of William Blane’s hymn, we declare, “Kept, safely kept; My fears away are swept; In weakness to my God I cling, Though foes be strong I calmly sing, Kept, safely kept. Kept by His power, Whatever dangers lower, The strength of God’s almighty arm Doth shield my soul from every harm, Kept by His power.”
