“May the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all” (2 Thess 3:16).
Abe Lincoln told a story about his circuit-riding days. Heading to the next court session, he and his companions had to cross many creeks swollen by the spring thaw. Although they had crossed each successfully, they often spoke of their mounting concern in having to cross the Fox River.
Evening came, which found them at a log inn for their meal and lodging. A Methodist elder of the district who rode through the countryside in all sorts of weather happened to be at the inn that night. As they gathered by the fire, Lincoln’s friends inquired of the elder about the present state of the river. “Oh, yes, I know all about the Fox River,” he said. “I’ve crossed it many times and understand it well. But I have a fixed rule about the Fox River,” he concluded with a twinkle in his eye. “I never cross it till I reach it.” If the Lord is your traveling companion, don’t trouble trouble till you reach it.
