CHRIST the CONQUEROR: “When a stronger than he comes upon him and overcomes him, he takes from him all his armor” (Lk 11:22). Both from the case of the Gadarene demoniac and the one in the synagogue of Capernaum we learn that, great as was the sway of Satan over the bodies and souls of men, it was not such as to prevent them taking themselves to Jesus.…No power of Satan can deter us fleeing to the One who is the “Power of God.” Further, we have the assurance that there is…a time when Satan’s kingdom shall be destroyed, when Jesus shall put him and all other enemies “under His feet.”…As Christ bowed His head and cried, “It is finished,” He dragged the pillars of the Usurper’s Empire to the dust. And we anticipate when the tyranny…shall end; when Satan and his discomfited legions are strewn, like the hosts of Egypt, on the shores of Time, and “the [enemies] you have seen today you shall see no more forever” (Ex 14:13). —J.R.
