CHRIST the THEME of PROPHECY: “To Him all the prophets witness” (Acts 10:43). Divine prophecy is different from human predictions in three key ways: it must be sufficiently remote in time that it could not be anticipated as a logical trend, sufficiently specific in detail that it could not be contrived as one of many options, and sufficiently unlikely to occur so one would not expect it the normal course of events. Hundreds of details about Christ are convincing proofs of the gospel and faith-builders for believers (Rom 1:2; 2 Pet 1:19). Christ is prophesied as the seed of the woman (Gen 3:15), from Abraham, Judah and David (Gen 49:10; Isa 9:7) to be born in Bethlehem (Mt 2). His humility and abuse were predicted (the Servant Songs in Isa 42, 49, 50, 53), as well as His ministry (Isa 61), His entry to Jerusalem, betrayal, death, burial and resurrection (Ps 16:10; 22; 41:9; Isa 53). “Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy” (Rev 19:10).
