CHRIST the BRIGHT and MORNING STAR (Rev 22:16). Our Lord here presents Himself as the herald of His own dawning. All the world shall see the Lord arise as the Sun of Righteousness, but only those looking for Him will see His appearing as the Morning Star. John Fletcher of Madeley (1729–1785), close friend of John and Charles Wesley, wrote of Him as the ever-shining ray of hope to meet the human heart’s needs: “We proclaim Him our Hope for those in despair, the Light to those who sit in darkness, the Help for the helpless, the Strength of the weak, the Riches of the poor, the Comfort of the afflicted, the Companion of the desolate, the Wisdom of the foolish, the Righteousness of the ungodly, the Friend of the friendless, the Sanctification of the unholy, the Redemption of the captives, the Joy of the mourners, the Glory of the unknown—in a word, the Salvation of the lost.” If Christ illuminates God’s vast world, surely He is enough for me!
