CHRIST our CAPTAIN (Heb 2:12). “It was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the Captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings” (Heb 2:10). Faith likes how God thinks and is prepared to trust Him. When the Scriptures say, “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom 10:17), it means not only that we have heard about Him—we “have heard Him” (Eph 4:21) and He was speaking to us! Not only have we seen the Captain’s chart and compass; we have seen the Captain’s face, and are learning to trust His heart. The Captain of our salvation has already been this way before, the only One who has navigated the whole suffering journey through without once losing His way. Thus He was perfectly prepared to be our Captain. Faith is not just a statement of Bible ideas with which we agree. It is resting in this blessed Person to bring us all the way Home to glory. —J. B.
