January 7 Petition Mission

“Oh, that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes! Then I would not be ashamed, when I look into all Your commandments” (Ps 119:5-6).

Here is a prayer for alignment—my ways directed by God’s Word. F.B. Meyer tells of a crisis in his life at age 60. Lord Strathclyde invited him for a few days of rest at his Scottish estate. There he discovered that the Africans who accompanied David Livingstone’s body to Westminster Abbey had built a hut on the estate identical to the one where Livingstone had died. Deeply moved as he thought of the explorer’s single-minded consecration, Meyer fell across the bed and prayed, “O God! Forgive me. I have been only half-hearted; take my will and make it Thine, and wherever I am out of joint with Thee, put me into joint, and as a token Thou hast heard my cry, give me a special work to do.” Meyer then stated that, although he had been active for the Lord for many years, he was given his greatest work after that heartfelt prayer.
