“Though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs” (Lk 11:8).
Author Fay Smart writes: “We find an excellent illustration of intercession in Luke 11:5-10, when one man, on behalf of a friend, woke a third friend at midnight to ask for some bread. Andrew Murray…points out the elements of true intercession here: 1) the urgent need of the hungry friend; 2) the willing love of the friend who sought to help; 3) the sense of impotence when he realized he had nothing to give; 4) the faith in his other friend’s ability to respond to his request; 5) the persistence that wouldn’t give up until he had been given what he asked for.
We’re surrounded today by human need,” the author continues in her helpful little booklet, Intercessory Prayer (Everyday Publications), “…Though we ourselves are impotent, we’re linked to God’s resources. Between our impotence and God’s omnipotence, prayer is the link!”
