January 24 Petition Mission

“And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the Lord heeded the voice of a man” (Josh 10:14).

Of course this means that this was the only time God answered someone in this particular way. John Chrysostom (347-407), nicknamed “Golden-mouthed,” wrote the following: “The potency of prayer has subdued the strength of fire, bridled the rage of lions, hushed anarchy to rest, extinguished wars, appeased the elements, expelled demons, burst the chains of death…rescued cities from destruction, stayed the sun in its course, and arrested the progress of the thunderbolt. Prayer is an efficient panoply, a treasure undiminished, a mine which is never exhausted, a sky unobscured by clouds, a heaven unruffled by storm. It is the root, the fountain, the mother of a thousand blessings.”

Yet it is not prayer in which we believe—it is God. He has offered us access to Him in prayer that we might find refuge to hide and strength to help in every need. God is standing by!
